It’s All about Camel



Because revival of heritage is a national duty and necessity, therefore we should discharge our efforts to serve that goal, as our heritage is the source of our strength and provides historical evidence of the ancient past and true history of the region and the social and cultural lifestyle of the past, so, from this meaningful point, The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre (HHC) organized the fourth edition of the National Day Camel Marathon in cooperation with Dubai Camel Racing Club ( DCRC) on 2nd February.

The change in the schedule from December to February was made to coincide with The His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Pure-bred Arabian Camel Races Festival – 2019 on its Second Edition.

The National Day Camel Marathon occupies pride of place in the Fazza Championships annual events calendar and serves as another platform for encouraging the younger generation to take up traditional Emirati sports and keeps in touch with their heritage.


This was the second time that the DCRC successfully organized the event at Al Marmoum Smart Camel Racing Track which is ideal for its flat terrain to give ease to the riders, also the track provides visitors a better view to enjoy watching camel marathon through two bridges been installed at the starting gates and terraces for viewing the races, thanks to the Executive Director of the DCRC, Ali Saeed Bin Saroud, for his full assistance and unbounded cooperation.

The race events consisted of two rounds, each round stretched for 11km, for a total of 22km, on the other hand, The HCC took into consideration giving the riders and their camels more adequate time to prepare for the very competitive and one-of-its-kind heritage marathon.  


Participation for the camel marathon was limited to UAE nationals from 15 years and above. Each rider must wear a helmet and protective clothing during the race, and required to wear the national uniform of the marathon.

The Events

The second of February, Al Marmoum Smart Camel Racing Track witnessed 83 UAE national riders, participated in the marathon displaying their full range of skills, with the finest performances along the course, as a testament to their heritage. This marathon truly tests the endurance of both; the riders need to have high levels of fitness and stamina, in addition to showing a great level of patience and skill in planning their race strategy.


Ahmed Ghulam Allah Nouh Al Baloushi on the back of the "Meyas", who took an early lead, finished in first place in a time of 21:52:05 minutes., Khalid Ali Saif Ali Al Nuaimi ( Lehbab Marathon winner) on the back of "Mukaram" finish second clocked 22:00:04 minutes,  “ Al Hammal “ grant Yahya Ali Saeed Al Malai Al Katabi the third place clocked  22:01:08 minutes.


Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmook, CEO of Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre, and Ali Saeed Bin Suroud, Executive Director, Dubai Camel Racing Club, presented the prizes to the winners. The winner Ahmed Ghulam Allah Nouh Al Baloushi , received the Golden Sword and a cash prize of AED150,000. The first runner-up Khalid Ali Saif Ali Al Nuaimi received a Shield and cash prize of AED70, 000. The second –runner up Yahya Ali Saeed Al Malai Al Katabi , received a Shield and cash prize of AED30, 000.

Winners from 4th position to the 30 positions received AED 10,000.each.
